Kathak

The origin of Kathak dance style is from the northern side of India. This dancing style is used to express/ tell the story (katha). Kathak is considered as an ancient methodology of communicating stories. This classical dance form is evolved from Jaipur, Banaras and Lucknow. The dancing style of Jaipur focuses on the foot movements while, the Banaras and Lucknow dancers mainly focuses on face expressions and the graceful movements of hand. The eyes expressions helps dancers as the communicating medium for stories. The Kathak dancing form is most famous in Hindus and Muslims religion. The costumes of Kathak dancers consist of Ghagharas - Choli, Chunari in addition to stunning jewellery and make-up. The costumes worn by Muslims Kathak dancers are majorly long skirts including tightly fitted trouser, also known as Churidar or Pyjama and the coat to cover hands and upper body part.
